Dear Stillwater Christian School Family,

Very few of the news reports we hear regarding this economic recession are positive; and there is no denying that this recession has had negative consequences for many families as well as the school.   However, as I have recently prepared devotions for the weekly high school “mini-chapels” on the attributes of God - His omnipresence, His omnipotence, and His unchangeable character - I have been encouraged by the reminder that it is in difficult times that God’s glory is revealed in the lives of His people. What a comfort to know that the Almighty God has the power and resources to see us through tough times.

As we approach the re-registration season, I want to share information that I hope will be useful as you consider registration for next year. The school board has re-evaluated its plan to  raise tuition to a cost-based level over three years. Tuition has been set  at a much lower increase of $200 than what the three-year plan would have anticipated. I believe this modest increase can actually result in a more fiscally healthy school. As a result, tuition for 2011-2012 will be as follows:

                Grades 1-8……$5,200        Grades 9-12……$5,800        PreK & K……No change

At the same time, anticipating increased need, the financial assistance fund will increase from $125,000 to $200,000 in available help for existing and new families enrolling at SCS.

Both the modest tuition increase and the expansion of financial assistance are important elements in my determined effort to make sure that every family who would desire to have children enrolled at SCS is able to do so.

What this means is that the administrative team (Ted Clark, Craig Hunnicutt, and myself) is focused intently on making it possible for every family at SCS to register for the 2011-2012 school year. Please contact one of us if you are unsure about your ability to enroll for next fall.

Re-registration meetings are scheduled for Thursday, February 24; Monday, February 28; and Tuesday, March 1 at 7:00pm. Plan now to attend one of these meetings and save $50 on one of your registration fees if you register before April 8. The meetings will emphasize, in greater detail, tuition-related matters, financial assistance, payment plans, important PTO changes, and other state-of-the-school concerns.

Thank you for your commitment to Christian schooling, and may God bless your efforts to remain part of the Stillwater Christian School family.

In Christ,

Daniel Makowski, Superintendent
