When we opened our doors on September 8th, 94 new smiling faces - accompanied, I'm sure, by some bellies of butterflies - were greeted that morning! How blessed we are to begin the year with such a strong enrollment! Some newcomers join us from established families, but 79 of these children are with new families. Most enrollment growth is seen in elementary and middle school – we now have two kindergarten and first grade classes, yet we also welcome 16 students to our high school and continue to see our international program expand with 8 students from China now studying with us.
As I met with families, especially during the summer months, I saw so many of them in transition. Plenty have recently relocated, both from in and out of state, and many are still going through the bumpy changes. Rental hiccups, temporary housing, belongings stuck in storage - one family even spent the bundle of the summer in a camper, with their children in a nearby tent! Not to mention changes in children’s routines, saying good-bye to loved ones, and the simple unfamiliarity of everything... Transitions don’t always go smoothly, and they’re certainly not easy!
I ask you to join me in praying that these students and parents are met with love and kindness as they make this beautiful valley their new home. I pray for strength, courage, and understanding for these students as they build relationships at Stillwater. I give thanks that they are in a school that is centered in Christ, and I pray that those butterflies in the stomach will soon disappear!
Warm welcome to new SCS families! I’m so glad that you are here!
