40 Days of Prayer – Day 11

SCS StudentDevotional Blog

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man, God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.  1 Corinthians 10:13

Many times we know that we have to be strong, but the question is… how? Does it ever seem like you’ve tried to persevere through the difficult times, but it’s just not enough?  Many times when we hear the phrase “Be strong”, we immediately think of our own determination to keep going. But in order to be strong when we’re facing temptation, we have to use the strength that God promises to give us, and not rely on our own power. Because of our sinful nature and weakness, we don’t have the ability to resist certain temptations on our own.  Just like 1 Corinthians 10:13 talks about, God is going to give us a way of escape when temptation comes. He’s going to give us a way to endure it.

We must remember that this doesn’t mean that staying strong in light of temptation will be easy or painless. This verse is reassuring because it reminds us that God loves us and that, when we live in him, he’s looking out for us. When we put our full faith in God’s sovereignty and control, that’s when we can surrender our circumstances to him and trust that he will give us the strength to persevere. God will continue to prove himself faithful no matter what happens. Recognize your own weakness, and then ask God to work in you to make you strong.
