Identity in Christ

Day 36

Monday, May 27, 2019

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.   1 Corinthians 12:12-13

In this verse, Paul is comparing the body to the Church of Christ.  Paul understands the human body as a group of various parts with different jobs which work together as one.  No part works the same way, but they are all needed in the body, similar to the Church of Christ. As the Spirit chooses which gifts to award each person, God arranges a specific job in the Church based off of their special gifts.  This idea shows us that all parts of the body are necessary and important.  In other words, your job, no matter how big or small, is very important in the Church of Christ.  And as Paul said, no matter your race or background or position in life, we are all children of God and are given the same Spirit to drink. In other words, there will be unity within the diversity of the body of the Church. In order for the Church to function correctly each part must have confidence in the job that they are given because each person has a specific role that must be carried out. In conclusion, God created each of us differently, and those differences should be celebrated. When we see someone who has talents and gifts unlike our own, we should praise God because His plan is always perfect. So remember today to thank God for the gifts He has given you and know that you were created in His image and are perfect in His eyes.
